Pedestrian Safety at Midblock Crossings on Dual Carriageway Roads in Polish Cities

چکیده

Road crossings across two or more lanes in one direction are particularly dangerous due to limited sight distance and high vehicle speeds. To improve their safety, road authorities should provide safety treatments. These may include additional measures reduce speed narrow the cross-section introduction of active pedestrian crossings. Equipped with flashing lights activated automatically when a is detected, painted red have an anti-skid surface on approaches. The article presents analysis user behaviour at dual carriageways varying provision some Polish cities. It also evaluates effectiveness over time. study was conducted before, immediately after year signage introduced. evaluation based how speeds changed before crossing, pedestrians behaved versus readiness cross street. number conflicts selected evaluated. treatments under were found be less effective than traditional such as cushions roads narrowed lane. This suggests that if used only temporary ultimately replaced traffic grade separated solution (a footbridge tunnel) exits from urban areas. No clear-cut conclusions about can drawn question. divided into following sections: review literature driver studies crossings, including midblock carriageways; description research method test sites, results, discussion results conclusion.

Development of a Neural Network Pedestrian Gap Acceptance Model for Enhanced Operation of Midblock Signalled Pedestrian Crossings

UK transport policy has shifted dramatically in recent years. The new policy direction seeks to promote walking as an alternative to the car for short trips. Midblock signalled pedestrian crossings are a common method of resolving the conflict between pedestrians and vehicles. This paper considers alternative operating strategies for midblock signalled pedestrian crossings that are more respons...

Safety at Level Crossings

Every year, more than 400 people are killed in over 1200 accidents at road-rail level crossings in the European Union. Together with tunnels and specific road black spots, level crossings (LC) have been identified as being a particular weak point in road infrastructure, seriously jeopardizing road safety. Safety at LC is a single part of a wider picture of transport safety within the whole tran...

Autonomous Manoeuvring Systems for Collision Avoidance on Single Carriageway Roads

The accurate perception of the surroundings of a vehicle has been the subject of study of numerous automotive researchers for many years. Although several projects in this area have been successfully completed, very few prototypes have actually been industrialized and installed in mass produced cars. This indicates that these research efforts must continue in order to improve the present system...
